Naziru’s love for football is reborn
My story
When Naziru Lumazi’s sight deteriorated, he became frustrated and depressed.
The impact of losing his sight was devastating. He could no longer take part in everyday tasks such as clothing himself. His passion for football was sidelined too as he could barely see the ball.
One of his brothers looked into his eye and noticed there was something wrong. His father couldn’t afford eye care treatment but knew that something had to be done.
Naziru’s father remarked, “Life is hard in Africa and losing your sight in one eye would be a real problem. Once you have lost one eye, there is no guarantee you won’t lose the other.”
How we helped
Jafaro, a community worker, informed Naziru’s father about Seeing is Believing and their relationship with CBM.
After a consultation with an eye specialist, Naziru was given a life changing cataract operation. The operation was a success and his father was delighted. Naziru is now going to school to have a proper education.
Naziru said, “Thank you to all the people who have given me sight. I can’t wait to start playing football again. Hopefully I will make the school team.”
