A bright future after lifetime of blindness for Fujun

My story

Day after day, Fujun sat on her bed, listening to other children go to school.

8 year old Fujun has been blind with cataracts since she was 4. Her parents did not take her to a doctor because they thought curing her would be too expensive. Instead, Fujun listened to the sounds of her new baby brother every day. She did not know what he looked like.

How we helped

Fujun's father took her to an outreach camp run by ORBIS, hoping for low-cost surgery. Fujun's condition required immediate treatment and Surgeon Director Xu was called away from holiday so that he could operate on her.  The longer treatment is left, the more less likely a child will develop full sight as the brain-eye connections can fail to develop properly.

The operation was a success and Fujun can now see her baby brother. However, Fujun will need ongoing treatment. She plans to visit the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital in March when it visits Dalian for more surgery and treatment.
